Encampment

One of the greatest joys this week has been devotions with Sandra. We as family members have all taken turns (depending on who is there in the morning) to have devotions with Sandra. She has been using Seeking God's Face by Phil Reinders from Faith Alive Christian Resources. It is subtitled Praying with the Bible through the Year. Sandra has especially been enjoying the Psalm portion. I'm amazed at how often the Psalm of the Day is so appropriate. Today's Psalm was 24, and the Bible Reading was Matthew 5:1-10, the Beatitudes. I invite all of you to read those passages and be blessed.

Sandra also loves Psalm 34 and has requested that we read it to her again and again. She loves the whole chapter, but has focused several times this week on verse 7: "The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them." We have prayed for Sandra to feel that encampment around her this week.

Many have asked for updates. There isn't a lot to update right now. The TPN has been started. Sandra gets "food" (TPN) through her IV port 20 hours a day. She gets fluids the other 4 hours along with other medications. She has a pick line into her upper arm for one of her anti nausea medications. She is generally not in pain. She is wearing a pain patch permanently which has been very effective.

The NG (nasal gastro) tube remains in place. Even though she is not eating or drinking, Sandra's body continues to build up mucus, gas and waste that normally would work its way through the bowels but can't. The NG tube relieves pressure and keeps Sandra from pain and vomiting.

Her chest tube is still in, but draining very little any more. That should be taken out early this week.

Sandra is weak--remaining bed bound. She is able to rest comfortably and sleep well overall. She does appreciate the posts people have been leaving on the blog and wants to encourage as many people as possible to do that. (We read them to her.)

If you are having difficulty posting on the blog (which I understand has happened frequently) feel free to send Sandra an email to: misselgersmasnotes@gmail.com. We have sent up that email address specifically for notes of encouragement to be sent to Sandra.

Thanks again for all of your prayers. We are feeling the support.

Psalm 34 is one of my favourites too...I so much find comfort in the words..
"I prayed to the Lord, and he answered me,
freeing me form all my fears."

I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Matthew 28:20

Faithful one by Brian Doerksen..has been playing in my head lately......
    "All through the storm
    your love is, the anchor"

  2. We read Psalm 92 today and I thought of you.
Bless you today as you declare HIS love in the morning and HIS faithfulness at night.

In other news, I've been teaching music this week and have gained even more respect for you than I've ever had. Thank you for showing me how to be patient and to always have Tylenol in my desk! God bless the recorder teachers.

    Love, Karen, Mike, and girls
